IRONHORSE® is an injectable solution made from iron saccharate, considered antianemic, for use in horses.
It is used in the treatment of anemic processes in horses due to iron deficiency. It is also used in pre-anemic syndrome; improves the performance of competition horses, as it acts as an element of cellular oxygenation. Indicated before and after surgery, to stimulate the appetite and during the breeding season, both in stallions and females. It can be used in the repair of competition horses.
FORMULA:
Each ml contains:
Iron Sacarate equivalent to 20 mg
elemental iron
Vehicle cbp 1 mL
STRCTURAL FORMULA:
Also known as complex of iron hydroxide III with sucrose, ferric hydroxide complex; iron oxide extracted; sucrose iron; Sucrose iron complex; iron sugar
MECHANISM OF ACTION:
When IRONHORSE® is injected it breaks down into carbohydrates and trivalent iron hydroxide which is stored as ferritin (storage iron) in the liver, from where it is transported as transferrin to the site of erythropoiesis (where it is form red blood cells).
PHARMACOKINETICS:
In healthy adult horses, the intravenous use of iron saccharate shows first-order kinetics, with an elimination half-life of 6 hours, and a total clearance of 1.2 L / h and
constant volume of distribution.
