Phenylbutazone is a powerful non-spheroidal anti-inflammatory drug with fast-acting analgesic and antipyretic properties, it is well absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract, reaching therapeutic levels within 2 hours, its effect lasts approximately twelve hours.
Mechanism of Action of Phenylbutazone:
It is characterized by its ability to inhibit cyclooxygenases, precursors in the synthesis of thromboxanes and prostaglandin, this is the most important mediator in the amplification of pain. Dexamethasone suppresses the inflammatory response of traumatized tissue, inhibiting prostaglandin biosynthesis through stabilization of the cell and lysosomal membrane. On the other hand, it maintains the integrity of the capillary cell wall, thereby preventing the extravasation of fluids and plasma proteins into the affected tissue, thus considerably reducing edema.
