USE IN:
Bovines, equines.
INDICATIONS:
In horses for cases of stomach and intestinal indigestion; in cattle for cases of paresis and intestinal atony. For the treatment of paresis, intestinal atony and / or colic caused by constipation, filling or impaction as a purgative. PROPERTIES: The PERISTALTINA® formulation includes pilocarpine hydrochloride, which is an alkaloid with parasympathomimetic effects, that is, it stimulates the activity of the autonomic nervous system in its parasympathetic portion, produces an increase in the tone and amplitude of gastrointestinal peristaltic contractions, by at the same time that it stimulates the secretion of gastric juice, saliva and pancreatic juice; it also produces great sweating (diaphoresis). Another component of PERISTALTINA® is arecoline hydrobromide, an alkaloid derived from the areca nut, which also has parasympathomimetic effects similar to pilocarpine, thus increasing peristalsis, which helps the intestinal evacuation of equines, especially when due to excess food in it, more or less severe colic occurs. The PERISTALTINA® formula includes eserine sulfate, also known as physostigmine, which is an alkaloid obtained from the Calabar bean. This substance also has parasympathomimetic action, performs its activity by inhibiting the destruction of acetylcholine and thus prolongs its effects. The three components of PERISTALTINA® act on the myenteric and submucosal plexuses that are part of the enteric nervous system; the first stimulates the peristaltic movements of the intestine and the second, the secretion of the intestinal glands of enzymes and intestinal hormones such as cholecystokinin, which increases the contraction of the gallbladder and the secretion of pancreatic juice; gastrin, which stimulates gastric acid secretion; secretin, which stimulates the secretion of cholecystokinin. Other important hormones are motilin, which stimulates the production of pepsin, and bombesin, which causes the release of gastrin.
DOSE:
Cattle and horses: 1 vial. The dose can be repeated 2 or 3 times a day, at the discretion of the Veterinary Zootechnician. The effect of its application is better when 300 to 500 mL of mineral oil are administered orally 1 hour before PERISTALTINA® injection.
