It is used in Bovines, Swines and Equines as an anti-inflammatory, antiallergic and as an adjunct in the treatment of anaphylactic shock, septic shock and allergies. In the treatment of acute musculoskeletal inflammations such as: arthritis, bursitis, tendosynovitis, traumatic myositis and as an adjunct in the improvement and reduction of claudication. It can also be used in case of fatigue, cardiac exhaustion, influenza and placental retention knowing the cause.
In dogs and cats anaphylactic shock, septic shock, allergies, dermatitis, eczema, otitis, myositis, arthritis, spondylitis, lameness and as an aid in the treatment of inflammation in the spinal disc. In cases of dermatitis, arthritis, arthrosynovitis in conjunction with antibiotic therapy.
FORMULA:
Each ml contains:
Dexamethasone sodium phosphate equivalent to 2mg
dexamethasone phosphate
Vehicle cbp 1 mL
Net content: One bottle with 2 mL, 5 mL, 10 mL, or 50 mL.
DOSE:
Horses: Horses:
• Parenterally as anti-inflammatory and antiallergic: 0.05 to 0.2 mg / kg (1 to 4 ml per 40 kg of body weight) once a day or 2.5 to 20 mg (1.25 – 10 mL) as a total dose per animal once up to date.
• Orally the dose is 0.05 to 0.2 mg / kg of body weight once a day (1 to 4 ml for every 40 kg of body weight).
• For the treatment of recurrent airway obstruction (ORVA and RAO): The treatment must have a reduction dose as follows; Initial dose of 0.08 – 0.1 mg / kg (1.6 – 2 mL / 40kg) IM or IV for 3 to 4 days, continue with a dose of 0.05 – 0.07 mg / kg (1 – 1.4 mL / 40kg) IM or IV for 3 to 4 days and end with a dose of 0.03 – 0.06 mg / kg (0.6 – 1.2 mL / 40kg) IM or IV for 3 to 4 days of treatment.
• Dexamethasone suppression test (DST), for the diagnosis of PPID and Cushing’s syndrome; administer 40 µg / kg / IM, and then collect the blood sample between 15 and 19 hours after the application. For a 400 kg horse administer 16 mg total IM (8 mL total).
Bovines:
• As anti-inflammatory and antiallergic: 5 to 40 mg per animal (2.5 – 20 mL per animal) as a single daily dose. • As an adjunct in the treatment of anaphylactic shock: 1 to 4 mg / kg (0.5 to 2 ml / kg) every 4 hours IV.
• For the joint treatment of ketosis: Administer 0.02 – 0.04 mg / kg / IM (1 – 2 mL / 100 kg) or 5 – 20 mg total as a single IM dose (2.5 – 10 mL).
Pigs:
• As anti-inflammatory and antiallergic: From 1 to 10 mg per animal (0.5 to 5 mL per animal) once a day.
Canines:
• As an anti-inflammatory: Recommended low dose 0.1 mg / kg (0.05 mL / kg or 0.5 mL / 10 kg) every 12 or 24 hours IM, SC or IV. Average dose of 0.5 to 1 mg / kg (0.25 to 0.5 mL / kg) once a day IM or IV as a single dose or can be repeated with an interval of 3 to 5 days.
• For the treatment of acute allergic reactions: Dose of 1 – 4 mg / kg (0.5 – 2 mL / kg) IV. As a single dose, or it can be repeated with an interval of 12 to 24 hours.
• For adjuvant therapy of shock: Dose of 2 – 8 mg / kg (1 – 4 mL / kg) IV as a single dose.
• For the adjuvant treatment of autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AHIM): Dose of 0.1 – 0.6 mg / kg (0.05 – 0.3 mL / kg or 0.5 – 3 mL / 10 kg) IV as a single dose, in animals that do not have a route oral permeable 0.1 – 1 mg / kg / day (0.05 – 0.5 mL / kg) IM or SC, long dexamethasone treatments are not recommended, it is suggested to continue treatment with prednisolone.
• For the treatment of acute Addisonian crisis: Recommended dose 0.5 mg / kg (0.25 mL / kg or 2.5 mL / 10 kg) IV. The initial mean dose required can range from 0.5 – 2 mg / kg (0.25 – 1 mL / kg) IV, secondary or low doses can range from 0.1 – 0.5 mg / kg (0.05 – 0.25 mL / kg or 0.5 – 2.5 mL / 10 kg) IV.
• For the diagnosis of hyperadrenocorticism; low dose dexamethasone suppression test (LDDS): 0.01 mg / kg (0.005 mL / kg or 0.05 mL / 10 kg) IV. A 1:10 dilution with saline can be done to ensure accurate dosing especially in small patients. Sampling is recommended after 4 and 8 hours after drug administration.
• For the diagnosis of hyperadrenocorticism; high-dose dexamethasone (HDDS) suppression test: 0.1 mg / kg (0.05 mL / kg or 0.5 mL / 10 kg) IV. Sampling is recommended after 4 and 8 hours after drug administration.
